More housing assistance required
For the past 22 years, Pham Van Son's family lived in a 30m² bare-brick house on a mountainside in Ly Ong Trong alley, Vinh Phuoc Ward. Thanks to the financial support, the house has been repaired with a tiled floor, reinforced walls, aluminum-glass doors, a bedroom, a living room, a kitchen and a mezzanine with a total cost of VND80 million. His family had saved VND50 million. With an additional VND30 million grant, he decided to renovate the house to create a safe and secure living environment.
86-year-old Dinh Thi Trung living at 32 Ly Phuc Man, Truong Phuc 2 Residential Group, Vinh Phuoc Ward) also shared her joy at a renovated home after more than 30 years living in derelict housing. At the meeting of the Steering Committee for Eradication of dilapidated houses in Nha Trang City (Steering Committee 3629) last weekend, Pham Ngoc Thach, Secretary of the Vinh Phuoc Ward Party Committee stated that the ward has completed repairing and building 4 houses.
A newly-built house costs about VND100 - 120 million, with a support budget of VND60 million, requiring additional mobilization and counterpart resources. However, the households eligible for support are in extreme poverty and many localities struggle to mobilize more donations. According to the leader of Vinh Truong Ward People's Committee, 31 households are still in need of home repair and construction assistance but the ward has numerous other social security activities requiring financial support, making it challenging to consistently secure donations from local businesses.
Determined to complete the tasks ahead of schedule
Currently, communes and wards are coordinating to settle accounts for repaired and newly built houses; weekly reporting progress to the City People's Committee; striving to complete the tasks ahead of schedule assigned by the province. To speed up the implementation progress, Tran Minh Chien, Chairman of the City People's Committee, requested localities to make a specific plan for each case; evaluate and supervise the implementation; mobilize support, including mobilizing construction companies to reduce construction costs, etc.
Comrade Tran Manh Dung, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Secretary of Nha Trang City Party Committee affirmed that eliminating dilapidated houses is one of the important tasks contributing to sustainable poverty reduction. The city has been highly determined to reach the set goal; Relevant communes, wards, departments and agencies to continue to focus on implementing this work in accordance with regulations; closely monitor and supervise the construction progress and quality; mobilize financial support for local people and reciprocal capitals as well.
The Fatherland Front Committee of the city has to promptly guide the allocation and receipt of funds; help the Steering Committee 3629 regularly and directly assess the situation to remove obstacles; utilize the city's Fund for the Poor reasonably and ensure the assistance goes to those entitled.
