For many years, traffic jams have frequently occurred at the Ma Vong roundabout area (Nha Trang City) when trains pass through, especially during rush hour. Therefore, Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee has assigned Nha Trang City People's Committee to evaluate and report on the proposed investment policy for the Ma Vong Roundabout Intersection Project.
Local residents report that the intersection of Le Hong Phong Street, 23/10 Street, and Thai Nguyen Street, which crosses a railway, has become a frequent bottleneck for traffic. Congestion is particularly severe during early morning and afternoon hours when trains pass through, disrupting the flow of vehicles and causing significant delays for commuters.
According to the Department of Economics, Infrastructure, and Urban Areas of Nha Trang City, Nha Trang Station plays a pivotal role as one of the major stations on the North-South railway line, so all trains traveling along this route make a stop at the station.
While the traffic issues at the train crossings on 23/10 Street have been resolved with the operation of Ngoc Hoi intersection, challenges remain at the Ma Vong intersection. Congestion continues to occur during rush hours, particularly when trains pass, causing delays for commuters in the area.
To solve the traffic congestion at Ma Vong intersection, Nha Trang City People's Committee recently surveyed and proposed an investment plan for the Ma Vong Roundabout Intersection Project to the Provincial People's Committee.
According to the plan proposed by the City People's Committee, the project includes the construction of a two-way railway overpass for travelers from Thai Nguyen, Thong Nhat, Yersin streets turning into Le Hong Phong street and vice versa; and organizing traffic beneath the intersection, which includes renovating the existing roundabout to enhance efficiency and safety. On Le Hong Phong street, an internal road system is arranged for vehicles to access the bridge and enter residential areas.
The project involves the construction of a two-way railway overpass designed to accommodate travelers moving between Thai Nguyen, Thong Nhat, and Yersin Streets and Le Hong Phong Street in both directions. Additionally, traffic beneath the intersection will be organized using a modern roundabout system, which includes renovating the existing roundabout to enhance efficiency and safety.
The project is expected to have a total investment of VND390 billion, including VND211 billion for the construction and VND118 billion for compensation and site clearance. The project will build a permanent steel bridge with a designed speed on the bridge of 20km/h, 40km/h on the road leading to the intersection and 30km/h on the road under the bridge. When the project is put into operation, vehicles from 23/10, Le Hong Phong, Thai Nguyen, Thong Nhat and Yersin streets must travel on the overpass to cross the railway.
At present, the internal road within the new urban area of Le Hong Phong II remains closed to traffic. However, upon completion of the overpass at Ma Vong intersection, this road will be opened, allowing residents to access the overpass and enjoy more convenient travel routes. The project also includes the construction of a pedestrian bridge over the railway.
According to the leader of Nha Trang City People's Committee, the Ma Vong Roundabout Intersection Project is consistent with the planning orientation according to the Adjustment Project of Nha Trang City Master Plan to 2040, and is also consistent with the orientation of the Project on road traffic in Nha Trang City to 2030 and orientation to 2040.
The investment in this project is very urgent to resolve traffic conflicts, improve traffic safety, improve traffic capacity and limit the impact of railways on road traffic.
