Emerging in the war zone

According to the memoirs of revolutionary veterans, namely Nguyen Minh Vy, Ly Van Sau, Vo Van Sung... in the book “We Make Khanh Hoa Newspaper” published 25 years ago, on April 26, 1946, at the Open Conference (Dien Khanh), Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee issued a resolution to establish Thang Newspaper as its official publication.

After a year of preparation, in April 1947, the newspaper made its debut in the Hon Du war zone. Thang paper was first printed using lithography and published 2-3 issues per month, each consisting of 4 pages with about 600-700 copies. Despite the harsh conditions, the newspaper still spread widely among the masses. Initially, the Thang Newspaper consisted of only 5 staff led by Nguyen Minh Vy. To have such a publication, there was a great effort from the revolutionary compatriots.

Stone steles for engraving were taken from Dien Khanh; white paper, ink and printing rollers were taken from Nha Trang City. Gasoline and oil kept in bamboo tubes were carried to the resistance zone to run the generator for newspaper production. The printed issues were then brought to the districts and Nha Trang City.

Progress through hardships

During the two wars, the newspaper's name changed many times from “Thong Tin” (1951 - 1954), Gio Moi (1954 - 1956), Khanh Hoa Giai Phong (1965 - 1975) and then Phu Khanh Newspaper merged from Khanh Hoa Newspaper and Phu Yen Newspaper following the unification of Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa into Phu Khanh Province in late 1975.
