Fundraising efforts to boost senior care

Over the years, Khanh Hoa Association for the Elderly in Khanh Hoa Province has developed the Elder Care Fund, offering loan assistance to support household economic development and implementing a variety of meaningful initiatives for senior citizens.

Raising funds for elder care

Xuan Tho Commune Association Branch for the Elderly, Xuan Son Commune, Van Ninh District, has nearly 200 members. Over the years, Xuan Tho Commune Association Branch for the Elderly has organized various practical activities to improve care for the elderly. Many effective initiatives have been implemented to help raise funds for the elderly, up to VND900 million used as loans for household economic growth with a monthly interest of 2%. Each member can get a loan of VND12 million for 3-5 years.

From the loan capital of the intergenerational club, the elderly members in Ninh Hoa have invested in developing livestock farming, bringing about efficiency.
Thanks to the loan grant from the intergenerational club, the elderly members in Ninh Hoa have successfully invested in livestock farming, achieving high efficiency.

According to Nguyen Duc Thien, Head of Xuan Tho Commune Association Branch for the Elderly, 100% of members have benefited from loan assistance for agricultural practices, achieving high efficiency. The association offers financial support of VND200,000/ person for those who are ill and provides over VND16.7 million/ person to cover funeral expenses. Besides, longevity celebrations, musical and cultural exchanges, health care and other meaningful activities to support senior citizens are organized by the association.

Similarly, the Elderly Association of Vo Cang Village (Vinh Trung Commune, Nha Trang city) has stood out in the development of the Elderly Care Fund to promote the role of the elderly. Members were initially encouraged to contribute VND40,000/person to the fund and now the amount has increased to VND200,000/person. This fund is only used to provide financial support for families in economic development, cover medical care and offer grants for marriage and funeral expenses.

To expand the fund, the Executive Committee of the Association has placed over 100 savings boxes in members’ homes, labeled with messages like "Doing good deeds every day" and "Living happily every day." Members voluntarily contribute small amounts, helping raise funds for gifts, health check-ups, assistance for the poor and sick, and funeral grants.

Every 4 months, the donations are collected and used as financial support offered to members in turn or when needed at low interest rates. The interest is used to buy gifts, cover medical expenses and the principal still belongs to the contributors.

Effectively implemented

According to Vo Binh Tan, Vice-Chairman of the Provincial Elderly Association, the whole province has more than 125,190 members. Elder care has recently become a major focus for the Party Committees, local authorities, and socio-political organizations, reflecting a growing commitment to the well-being of seniors. Notably, the Elderly Fund has been effectively carried out, providing essential financial support for senior citizens.

Currently, in the province, there are 922 village and residential group associations with the Eldercare Fund which has accumulated over VND22.5 billion in total. Especially, Vo Cang Village Elderly Association has raised nearly VND1 billion; Xuan Tho Village Association more than VND900 million; Tan Dan 1 Village Association (Van Thang Commune, Van Ninh) more than VND3 billion... with diverse, effective and practical activities.
