Towards the use of environmentally friendly energies

At the recent working session with the Provincial People's Committee, representatives of VinUni University handed over to the Department of Construction a digital toolkit (Digital Twin) to enhance the management of the public passenger transport system by bus in the province.

According to Ho Tan Quang, Deputy Director of the Department of Construction, the department has implemented several action programs on green transformation, green growth and reduction of carbon and greenhouse gas emissions in transportation, focusing on promoting the development of public passenger transport by bus and the transition to eco-friendly vehicles.

The Digital Twin is the first digital toolkit capable of digitizing comprehensive data on public bus transportation within the province; and enabling the simulation of environmental impact scenarios during changes in the proportion of electric buses in operation. This digital tool is also a platform for application to many other types of public transport such as taxis, fixed-route and contract tour buses, etc.

In 2024, the department opened 4 new bus routes, including 2 running on electric energy for the first time in the area. Currently, the province has 20 bus routes with a total of 120 vehicles; with green energy buses accounting for 10%, fulfilling the target set out in Decision No. 2690 dated October 15, 2024 of the Provincial People's Committee on approving the Green Transformation Project of Khanh Hoa Province for the period 2024 - 2030.

Environmental pollution in urban areas is primarily caused by vehicles powered by fossil fuels, such as coal, oil, and natural gas. To reduce pollution, it is crucial to develop public transportation systems and curtail the use of private vehicles together with the transition from fossil fuels to environmentally friendly energies.

VinUni University is coordinating with Khanh Hoa Province to implement the Smart Electric Vehicle Charging Technology Project to optimize renewable energy and develop sustainable transportation, according to Associate Professor, PhD. Phan Thi Thuc Anh, Director of the Innovation Center, VinUni University.

Sustainability and eco-friendly practices across various sectors

According to a representative of VinUni University, the university is building an IoT and AI-based smart, sustainable aquaculture project with the goal of monitoring aquaculture water quality using an IoT digital platform. In the tourism sector, the Green Tourism Standards Project to evaluate accommodation facilities and tourist destinations and develop an app to manage green tourism standards is also being implemented. VinUni University also coordinates with the province to implement other projects such as: Innovative energy management model for low-carbon hotels to promote green tourism in Nha Trang City; water pollution monitoring map for Nha Trang City; building a green value system (promoting green lifestyle through Chatbot tool) ...

Dinh Van Thieu, Vice-Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee said that the Provincial People's Committee has approved the Green Transformation Project of Khanh Hoa province for the period 2024 - 2030 to achieve the goal of Khanh Hoa being among the top 10 provinces nationwide in green transformation and green growth according to the Provincial Green Index rankings.

In the coming time, the province has proposed that VinUni University support the province in developing the following areas: green agriculture, green industry, green tourism, green urban areas, green transportation, green lifestyle; propose specific models for agencies to effectively implement green growth goals.

The Provincial People's Committee also requested the Department of Construction to strengthen coordination with VinUni University and scientific research agencies to implement more projects to promote green transformation and green development in the field of transportation; the Department of Finance to collect opinions from departments and agencies on the content of the projects; the Department of Agriculture and Environment to coordinate with VinUni University to build a smart and sustainable aquaculture system based on technologies suited to local conditions; and the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to boost the mobilization of tourism businesses to participate in green tourism initiatives.

All efforts are to drive the green transition in every sector in the province's new stage of development.
