As part of the charitable initiative at Nha Trang Night Run Sanvinest - Khanh Hoa Newspaper 2024, Saigon Nha Trang Eye Hospital, in partnership with Khanh Hoa Newspaper and Khanh Hoa Sanest Soft Drink Joint Stock Company (Sanvinest), conducted an ocular screening in Vinh Hiep Commune (Nha Trang City) on April 4.
Ocular Screening for more than 100 people
At 7 a.m., Saigon Nha Trang Eye Hospital staff arrived at Vinh Hiep Commune People's Committee, bringing sufficient medical devices for ocular examination, including 2 eye examination machines, eyeglasses, Snellen eye charts for ophthalmology vision tests, eye drops, supplements, oral medications for eye treatment, and other medical devices.
During the screening, residents were also given free eye supplements and eye drops, as well as eye care advice from doctors. Those diagnosed with serious eye diseases such as cataracts, glaucoma, etc., were advised to take treatment.
Present at the event, 60-year-old Pham Thu Huong, Civil Group 9, Vinh Hiep, who suffers from gastric reflux, tricuspid valve disease, and impaired vision, said, “Old people are often susceptible to many diseases, especially eye diseases, so the program means a lot to us.”
53-year-old Vo Thi Thuan (Group 8 Vinh Chau, Vinh Hiep) brought her 84-year-old mother Pham Thi Bong to the program for an eye screening. Vo Thi Thuan's vision has become increasingly blurry, making it difficult for her to see clearly for the past 2 years. Due to her family's financial struggles, she has been reluctant to get an eye exam. She received a medical offer, so she took her mother for an eye check-up and she herself took the opportunity to have her eyes examined as well.
After the examination, her mom was diagnosed to have cataracts while she was found to have grade 3 farsightedness. They both received medications along with detailed eye care instructions from the doctor at Saigon Nha Trang Eye Hospital. The screening program examined more than 100 people, identifying 39 cases of cataracts, 35 with progressive cataracts, 1 with pterygium, 4 with conjunctivitis and 13 with presbyopia. Based on the criteria of the volunteer program at the Nha Trang Night Run Sanvinest - Khanh Hoa Newspaper 2024, 10 disadvantaged patients scheduled for surgery will receive full financial eye surgery support from the program.
Profoundly meaningful and compassionate program
Pham Thi Thuy Phuong, Vice-Chairman of Vinh Hiep Commune People's Committee, said, “The Commune People's Committee has collaborated to ensure favorable conditions, providing necessary facilities and human resources to support the program’s implementation. The program is conducted by highly qualified doctors and nurses, equipped with sufficient medical resources to facilitate early eye disease detection, especially among the elderly, allowing them to receive timely treatment. I hope that more charity medical initiatives like this will be organized, further enhancing healthcare in the community."
As part of the volunteer program at Nha Trang Night Run Sanvinest - Khanh Hoa Newspaper 2024, earlier on February 26, the free medical examination program benefited nearly 130 people in Suoi Hiep Commune (Dien Khanh District). Along with eye screening using modern medical equipment, eye care instructions were provided, especially for the elderly and students by the medical team of Saigon Nha Trang Eye Hospital. Through the examination, 41 people were diagnosed with cataracts and recommended for surgery. 10 disadvantaged patients will receive free eye surgery from Nha Trang Night Run Sanvinest - Khanh Hoa Newspaper 2024. As part of its ongoing volunteer efforts, the program will extend free eye screenings to Ninh Hai Ward, Ninh Hoa Town.
Specialist Doctor II Nguyen Nam Trung - Director of Saigon Nha Trang Eye Hospital said: "The hospital is committed to providing the best eye health care services to the community, but also spreading humane values to the community. We are honored to support this program to help those in need. We are committed to continuing to maintain volunteer activities, contributing to improving the quality of life and expanding access to comprehensive healthcare, ensuring that everyone receives the eye care they deserve."
The program offers not only free eye examinations and medication but also guidance on eye care to safeguard the "windows to the soul." Additionally, it provides free eye surgery for those in need, embodying the humanitarian goal of Nha Trang Night Run Sanvinest - Khanh Hoa Newspaper 2024 towards the community.
