Continuing the charitable journey of Nha Trang Night Run Sanvinest - Khanh Hoa Newspaper 2024, Saigon Nha Trang Eye Hospital, in partnership with Khanh Hoa Newspaper and Khanh Hoa Sanest Soft Drink Joint Stock Company (Sanvinest), conducted an ocular screening in Ninh Hai Ward, Ninh Hoa Ward, Khanh Hoa Province on April 12.

Free eye examination

This is the third and last destination of the program's journey of restoring sight, bringing light to the poor. Beyond providing specialized medical screenings, the initiative facilitates early detection of cases requiring intervention and offering surgical support to disadvantaged patients.

During the day, more than 100 people from Ninh Hai Ward came for screening. Most of them were elderly people, manual laborers, students and some patients with a history of eye diseases. Most were diagnosed with cataracts, a disease that causes severe vision loss and is the leading cause of blindness in the elderly. In addition, doctors also recorded many cases of severe refractive errors, glaucoma, chronic conjunctivitis, and age-related macular degeneration that can seriously affect vision if not treated promptly and properly.

67-year-old Duong Thi Mai, Ninh Hai Ward said, “I had attributed my poor eyesight to aging. I didn’t know I have cataracts until I got examined here. I was advised to undergo a surgery soon.” 70-year-old Tran Minh, Ninh Hai Ward said, “Thanks to the charity medical trip with modern eye examination equipment, we can get eye check-up and eye care advice together with eye drops.”

During the screening, residents received free eye supplements and eye drops, along with comprehensive eye care guidance, including tips on nutrition and recognizing early warning signs of potential eye problems.

Mai Van Ly, Chairman of the Farmers' Association and Chairman of the Elderly Association of Ninh Hai Ward said, "I feel touched and grateful for the medical program. The medical staff, doctors and nurses are very enthusiastic. We hope that in the future, the program will continue to support the elderly with eye care and protection."

Full surgical support for 30 poor patients

According to Specialist II Doctor Nguyen Nam Trung, Director of Saigon Nha Trang Eye Hospital, during the volunteer examinations in coordination with Khanh Hoa Newspaper and Sanvinest Khanh Hoa, many are still lacking access to specialized eye care and having late-stage cataracts, leading to significant vision impairment and seriously affecting their life quality. This screening helps them regain vision, take better care of their eyes while easing the medical burden.

After the examination, residents are given free medicines and instructions.

As part of the charity program of Nha Trang Night Run Sanvinest - Khanh Hoa Newspaper 2024, after the screening in Ninh Hai Ward, 30 poor patients from Ninh Hai Ward (Ninh Hoa Town), Vinh Hiep Commune (Nha Trang City) and Suoi Cat Commune (Cam Lam District) will benefit from pre-operative examination and Phaco surgery at Saigon Nha Trang Eye Hospital using state-of-the-art equipment in the Central and Central Highlands regions.
