Akademik Oparin docks in Nha Trang for marine survey

The Institute of Oceanography (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology) held a ceremony on May 1 to welcome the Akademik Oparin ship to survey Vietnam's sea within the marine research cooperation program of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Present at the event were Timofei Maliarenko, Representative of the Russian Federation Survey delegation; PhD. Nguyen Hoang Duong, Deputy Head of the International Cooperation Department, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology; Associate Professor, PhD. Dao Viet Ha, Director of the Institute of Oceanography together with representatives of the Vietnam Administration of Seas and Islands, Nha Trang Port Border Guard Station and Nha Trang Maritime Port Authority.

Taking place on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Russian Federation (1950 - 2025), the 9th joint marine survey between the two Academies runs on May 1 - 25 in Vietnam's waters, continuing a series of cooperative activities since 2005, contributing to strengthening the long-term, effective and trustworthy scientific relationship between the two leading Academies of Science.

Associate Professor, PhD. Dao Viet Ha emphasized that this 9th joint survey trip demonstrated the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation in science and technology, especially in marine research and natural resource protection.

The survey utilizes the research vessel Oparin specially designed for biochemical and biodiversity research with the participation of 30 Russian and Vietnamese scientists to collect samples from coastal and deep sea areas in the southern waters of Vietnam. The survey results will be announced at a scientific conference scheduled at the Institute of Oceanography on May 27.
