Developing modern and smart Nha Trang City

Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee has just approved the Nha Trang City Urban Development Program until 2040 which serves as a key foundation for advancing infrastructure investment towards building modern and smart Nha Trang City.

Over VND193,737 billion to implement the program

Nha Trang City Urban Development Program aims to specify the urban development orientation pursuant to the Politburo's Resolution No. 09 on the construction and development of Khanh Hoa Province till 2030 with a vision till 2045. The program aligns with the approved planning, ensuring urban development associated with socio-economic growth, social security, preservation of historical and cultural values ​​and environmental protection. The goal is to enhance the local life quality through strategic investment in integrated, modern technical and social infrastructure and landscape architecture.

According to Le Tien Vinh, Chief of the Department of Economics, Infrastructure and Urban Areas of Nha Trang City, to implement the program, the city will conduct a comprehensive review of socio-economic and urban infrastructure criteria based on which a plan and roadmap will be developed to meet criteria. On that basis, the city will propose strategies to mobilize resources to enhance infrastructure development, strengthen Nha Trang's role as a key driver of local economic growth and optimize its geographical, resource and land advantages.

According to the Nha Trang City Urban Development Program, by 2025, the city will strive to fully meet the criteria according to the standards of a type I metropolis; suburban communes will strive to meet infrastructure development standards to be qualified for ward status. In the period of 2026 - 2030, the city aims to achieve 100% of the criteria of a type I metropolis with qualified communes upgraded into wards.

By 2040, Nha Trang will continue to improve its criteria and standards as a centrally- governed type I metropolis, strengthening its role as a national and international coastal tourism center. The city will support maritime logistics, trade, services, and finance, striving to become a leading economic and financial hub in Southeast Asia. The total investment demand for the program and related projects by 2030 is estimated at over VND193,737 billion, primarily sourced from social investment fund.

Administrative units will be reviewed and re-arranged

According to Le Tien Vinh, all communes in Nha Trang will be officially upgraded to wards by 2030. The program implementation roadmap is divided into phases. By 2025, the city will strive to achieve the following standards: Public passenger transport reaching 15%; urban civilized streets reaching 50%; having at least 1 certified green building; together with the planning of 4 urban functional zones and new urban areas based on the green urban model with the integration of advanced smart technologies.

In the phase 2026 – 2030, the total urban population density will reach 3,000/km2 or more with 12,000 people/km2 in the inner city area; the urban construction land will account for 24.4%; the average housing area in the inner city will be 33.5m2/person; the average green area will be 10m2/person; at least 60% of wastewater meets treatment standards; traffic land will reach 4.5% of construction land; the density of roads will reach 2km/km2; the average traffic land will be 6.25m2/person; public transport will be 20%; streets classified as civilized will reach 60% together with at least 2 certified green works; 4 urban functional zones and new urban areas based on the green urban model with the integration of advanced smart technologies.

During the 2026–2030 phase, urban population density will reach at least 3,000 people/km² with 12,000 people/km² in the inner city. Urban construction land will account for 24.4% while the average inner-city housing area will be 33.5m²/person. Green space will average 10m²/person and at least 60% of wastewater will meet treatment standards. Traffic land will comprise 4.5% of construction land with road density of 2km/km² and an average traffic land area of 6.25m²/person. Public transport will reach 20% with 60% of streets classified as civilized, alongside at least 2 certified green buildings; 4 urban functional zones and new urban areas based on the green urban model with the integration of advanced smart technology.

During the 2031–2040 phase, the city will maintain and enhance existing criteria with 100% of streets classified as civilized. Urban construction land will account for 32.1% while average transport land will reach 13m²/person. Road density will increase to 8km/km²; public transport will exceed 20%; and public green space in the inner city will reach at least 6m²/ person.
