Khanh Hoa delegation pays working visit to Northern Australian Department of Agriculture and Fisheries 

Within the framework of the provincial working trip to Australia, the Khanh Hoa Provincial Delegation led by Dinh Van Thieu, Vice-Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee had a working session on May 19 with the Northern Australian Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, Farmers’ Association and Fisheries Council.

This in-depth exchange discussion aimed to foster technical cooperation in high-tech marine farming, a strategic strength for both parties. At the meeting, provincial leaders gave an overview of provincial socio-economic development strategies, especially in the field of marine economy with outstanding advantages in aquaculture, marine biological research and development of industrial and offshore marine farming technology.

Khanh Hoa is one of the leading localities in the country in industrial marine aquaculture with many pioneering models, including offshore sea bass farming project of Australis Vietnam Seafood Company Limited; High-tech Marine Farming Center of Aquaculture Research Institute I; marine farming technology transfer programs for households in Cam Ranh and so on.

Khanh Hoa provincial delegation works with leaders of the North Australian Department of Agriculture and Fisheries.

The delegation of Khanh Hoa Province emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation in the following areas of high-tech aquaculture; development of aquatic breeds; sharing experience and transferring technology for farming species of high economic value such as lobster, sea bass, pompano, abalone and seaweed.

The delegation also proposed connecting with businesses in Northern Australia to promote the consumption of local high-quality seafood products; exchanging support policies, harvesting and post-harvest preservation techniques to improve the efficiency of the seafood industry value chain.

Besides, the two sides also discussed the potential for cooperation in agriculture, especially in developing the value chain for mango, one of the key agricultural products of Khanh Hoa.

Zoe McManus, Senior Director of Industry Development, Department of Agriculture and Fisheries of Northern Australia affirmed that strengthening cooperation in the above fields will contribute to meeting the common goals of both sides in developing the blue economy, adapting to climate change and ensuring food security.
