Synchronous transport infrastructure development

With the goal of becoming a centrally-governed city by 2030, Khanh Hoa has prioritized the development of transport infrastructure as a crucial driver of local economic growth. Numerous major projects to enhance transportation networks are being rapidly executed across the province.

Many key projects

Since 2020, many key national traffic projects have been carried out in the province with many completed and put into operation. In March 2023, the Nha Trang - Cam Lam expressway opened to traffic; A year later, in April 2024, the Cam Lam - Vinh Hao Expressway was completed and put into use, establishing a direct expressway connection between Ho Chi Minh City and Nha Trang, reducing travel time between the two cities from 8 hours to just 5.

In April 2025, the Van Phong - Nha Trang expressway project was completed and put more than 70km of the final section of the route into operation, and the remaining 12km is expected to be completed by June this year.

Most recently, in April 2025, the Van Phong - Nha Trang Expressway was completed, with over 70 kilometers of the final section now in operation. The remaining 12 kilometers of the route are expected to be finished by June this year.

In addition, Khanh Hoa - Buon Ma Thuot Expressway Project, which started on June 30, 2023, is due to be completed and operational by 2027. The project to renovate and upgrade the remaining sections of National Highway 26 is being implemented by Project Management Board 5 (Ministry of Transport) and is expected to be finalized in 2025.

The project of the road from National Highway 27C to Provincial Road DT.656 of Khanh Hoa Province, connecting with Lam Dong Province and Ninh Thuan Province is also being implemented by the Management Board of the Provincial Project for Investment in Construction of Agricultural and Traffic Works, and scheduled to be completed in 2027.

For the project of the inter-regional road of Dien Khanh District, the investor has completed procedures and is about to proceed with the site clearance. The project of the coastal road from Van Luong Commune, Van Ninh District to Ninh Hoa Town is also being implemented by the Management Board of Van Phong Economic Zone and is expected to be completed in 2027.

According to Chu Van An, Deputy Director of the Department of Construction, in recent years, the province has made efforts to improve transport infrastructures to create momentum for local socio-economic development.

Since 2027, the province has been allocated about VND20,000 billion to invest in roads, inter-regional connections to establish a synchronized transport system, integrating roads with railways and airways to enhance connectivity and support economic growth. Transport infrastructure is believed to be the driving force to attract investors, strengthening national defense and security, promoting economic development, and facilitating travel.

Paving the way for development

As the gateway for trade between the Central Highlands and the East Sea, Khanh Hoa sits along the North-South traffic axis, seamlessly connected by road, rail, air, and sea. With 3 major bays, namely Van Phong, Nha Trang, and Cam Ranh, the province holds immense potential for the diverse growth of transportation and logistics services.

According to the leader of the Department of Construction, from now until 2030, the province will focus on developing the transport network in the province pursuant to the Khanh Hoa Provincial Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050 and national sectorial planning on roads, railways, airways, seaports and inland waterways, creating a synchronous and modern transport network, enhancing connections with neighboring localities and major economic centers, creating momentum for socio-economic development.

Currently, the province is coordinating with the Ministry of Construction to accelerate the implementation of expressway projects in the province. In the period of 2025 - 2030, Khanh Hoa will see the implementation of several major national traffic projects, including the Nha Trang - Da Lat Expressway, the upgrade and expansion of Cam Ranh International Airport, and investment initiatives for the Van Phong Airport Project. Additionally, efforts will focus on upgrading seaports, advancing key traffic projects, improving road infrastructure, and constructing new inter-regional connecting routes to enhance connectivity and development.

According to Chu Van An, with synchronous investment in transport infrastructure, the province expects to attract non-budgetary investment. Key transport infrastructure projects not only help connect trade but also create favorable conditions for businesses to attract strategic investors.

The province has identified the development of transport infrastructure as one of the important breakthroughs to promote economic development while creating an important premise for Khanh Hoa to become a centrally-governed city by 2030 according to Resolution No. 09 of the Politburo on the construction and development of Khanh Hoa Province till 2030 with a vision till 2045.

To achieve this goal, the province will continue to attract investment through public-private partnerships (PPP), mobilize official development assistance (ODA) funds, and leverage other legal financial resources for transport infrastructure projects. The province will also improve the investment environment, enhance competitiveness and streamline administrative procedures for investors. The investment in transport infrastructures promises to pave the way for the locality to thrive as a centrally-governed city, a driving force for the development in the region and the whole country.
