Bich Dam beach village becoming greener

After nearly 2 months into use, 2 projects on a solar lighting system and clean tourism promotion to welcome the 1st Congress of Nha Trang Ward Party Committee, term 2025 - 2030 at Bich Dam Residential Group (Hon Tre Island, Nha Trang Ward) have contributed to promoting a green, clean and beautiful coastal community.

Green models

On the occasion of the National Day holiday (September 2), Bich Dam Residential Group was bustling with tourists, but retained its tranquil charm because bicycles were the main means of transportation. Phan Khanh Minh (Cam Lam Commune) expressed her delight when she was able to leisurely pedal through alleys, pausing wherever she pleased to engage in warm conversations with friendly and welcoming locals.

According to Truong Thi Bich Phuong, Secretary of the Bich Dam Residential Group Youth Union, bicycles serve as the primary mode of transportation for residents on the island, offering a peaceful and eco-friendly way to get around. Visitors can rent bicycles for just VND10,000 per hour, making it an affordable option for sightseeing and experiencing daily life among the locals. The 3 bicycles were donated by Nha Trang Ward Youth Union as part of a meaningful initiative to raise funds for disadvantaged children and students living on the island.

Besides, the Ward Youth Union also gave Bich Dam Residential Group trash bins and trash nets with instructions on trash sorting at the source. According to Nguyen Minh Tuy, Head of Bich Dam Residential Group, waste on the island is collected and periodically transported to the mainland for disposal. Today, the community has taken a more proactive approach: after collection, residents now sort the trash into categories. Each month, the island collectively sorts around 30 kilograms of recyclable materials such as cans and plastic bottles, an encouraging step toward sustainability and environmental awareness.

Solar lamp posts are installed on the embankment road of Bich Dam Residential Group.

According to the Ward Youth Union, after nearly 2 months of implementation, the Youth Union has sorted about 50kg of cans and plastic bottles. The proceeds from selling these recyclables are thoughtfully directed toward supporting disadvantaged children and students on the island, turning everyday waste into meaningful opportunities for those in need.

With the same goal of building a green environment, the solar lighting system installed by the Fatherland Front Committee of Nha Trang Ward on the island's embankment also brings joy to the coastal village. The embankment is always crowded with people jogging and doing exercise every morning and evening.

In line with the island’s commitment to a greener environment, the Fatherland Front Committee of Nha Trang Ward has installed a solar-powered lighting system along the embankment. This eco-friendly initiative not only reduces energy consumption but also brings a sense of joy and safety to the coastal village. Every morning and evening, the embankment comes alive with residents jogging and enjoying their daily exercise routines under the gentle glow of solar lights.

Mai Tan, Head of the Fatherland Front Committee of Bich Dam Residential Group said, "The solar lighting system means a lot to the people as the power grid has not reached the island, helping illuminate the island and thus facilitate travel, especially at night."

Continued journey toward sustainability

According to Le Nguyen Thai Minh, Vice-Chairperson of Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the ward, Secretary of Nha Trang Ward Youth Union, the Ward Youth Union donated bicycles to the Bich Dam Residential Group Youth Union to raise awareness and foster a sense of responsibility among union members, local youth, and residents in developing tourism that goes hand-in-hand with protecting the marine and island environment. In the coming time, the Ward Youth Union will continue to expand the "Green Bicycle" model, maintain "Green Sunday" and "Volunteer Saturday" campaigns; promote environmental protection propaganda, mobilize more resources to diversify youth projects, contributing to spreading the message "green acts and clean tourism” toward sustainability.

According to Nguyen Thi Phuong Duyen, Chairperson of Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the ward, All of the above projects are being effectively implemented, reflecting the strong commitment of local organizations to sustainable development. The installation of the solar lighting system by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the ward demonstrates a practical and heartfelt concern for the needs of island residents.

The "Green Bicycle" model has attracted and pleased tourists; meanwhile, the waste classification initiative at the source plays a vital role in advancing the Project on Developing Green and Sustainable Community Tourism. Together, these efforts contribute to building a green, clean, and beautiful Nha Trang Ward, while empowering union members and youth to take active roles in shaping a civilized urban area, promoting green tourism, and protecting the marine and island environment.

The Fatherland Front Committee of the ward is mobilizing resources to expand solar lighting to additional locations. At the same time, the Ward Youth Union is being directed to seek further support for bicycles and enhance promotional efforts to grow the fund that supports disadvantaged children on the island.
