The groundbreaking ceremony for S.I.S Nha Trang International General Hospital project is expected to kick off on September 19. This is a specialized stroke treatment project in the Southern Central region to mark the 1st Provincial Party Congress, term 2025 - 2030.
Urgent needs
According to statistics from the health sector, there are about 100 stroke cases per 100,000 people on average each year. With a total population of about 13 million people in the 4 provinces of Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Lam Dong and Khanh Hoa, it is estimated that there will be about 13,000 new stroke cases annually. However, there is no specialized stroke center in the Southern Central region. As a result, patients have to be transferred long distances to Ho Chi Minh City or SIS Can Tho International General Hospital for treatment, losing golden time during the critical window for stroke intervention and reducing their chances of survival.

Tran Chi Cuong, M.D., Ph.D, Director of S.I.S Can Tho International General Hospital, said, "My colleagues and I have had more than 12 years of experience in providing stroke intervention training and emergency care in the central provinces such as Hue, Da Nang and Khanh Hoa. However, the region lacks a specialized stroke treatment facility. Effective stroke care demands not only highly skilled physicians but also seamless coordination among multiple disciplines, including neurology, cardiology, resuscitation, physical therapy and psychotherapy to achieve optimal outcomes. Therefore, establishing a dedicated stroke hospital in the Southern Central region is essential to ensure patients can access timely and effective treatment."
This is a specialized hospital for stroke treatment in the South Central region. When put into operation, the hospital will not only save thousands of lives each year, but also ease the burden on higher-level health facilities, improving the health care quality in the region. This project is also implemented following the Resolution 92 of the Politburo on breakthrough solutions, strengthening the public health protection and care, including promoting the development of private health care, effectively mobilizing and using all resources for health care enhancement; enhancing private investment activities, public-private partnerships in the health sector.
S.I.S Nha Trang International General Hospital aims to provide modern, specialized medical services for stroke and cardiovascular diseases, make services more readily available or convenient for patients, saving time and cost for treatment. Every minute after a stroke is critical for getting the right care and improving outcomes, bringing more opportunities for survival and better recovery.
Dr. Tran Chi Cuong believes that in the future, S.I.S Nha Trang International General Hospital will not only make stroke treatment services more accessible and convenient for patients, but also help reduce the burden on central hospitals, creating conditions for people in the province and the region to easily access high-quality medical care.
Pursuant to Decision No. 1897 dated June 30 of the Provincial People's Committee, S.I.S Nha Trang International General Hospital is built on an area of 20,023m2 in My Gia Urban Area (Nam Nha Trang Ward) with 200 beds, a total investment of about VND400 billion; it is planned to develop to 300-500 beds with a total investment of VND1,000 billion.
The project is expected to be completed and put into operation by the end of 2027. S.I.S Nha Trang International General Hospital will feature modern infrastructure and advanced medical equipment, staffed by leading experts dedicated to delivering high-quality, timely, and comprehensive healthcare services. In addition to patient care, the hospital will serve as a center for research, training, and medical technology transfer, contributing significantly to the enhancement of treatment quality in the region.
Many medical facilities invested and constructed
Besides the S.I.S Nha Trang International General Hospital Project, in recent years, many hospitals and medical facilities have been invested and put into operation in the province. They include 2 new hospitals, namely Oncology Hospital and Yersin Nha Trang General Hospital, which have just opened doors together with projects on expanding Ninh Hoa Regional General Hospital; Center for Disease Control; Ninh Hoa Medical Center and Van Ninh Medical Center; Traditional Medicine and Rehabilitation Hospital; investing in purchasing medical equipment and building a new High-Tech Center at Ninh Thuan General Hospital; renovating, upgrading and expanding facilities at Ninh Thuan Tuberculosis and Lung Disease Hospital.
Recently, at the 17th Session, the Provincial People's Council, 7th term, approved and issued a resolution approving the project to build Khanh Hoa General Hospital into a regional hospital in the South Central Coastal area with VND1,500 beds, including 500 high-tech specialized beds, with a total investment of 4,450 billion from the provincial budget.
In recent years, the provincial health system has been widely expanded, improving access to healthcare services. The infrastructure of health centers and hospitals has been upgraded to meet the growing demand for medical examination and treatment. The health sector has also focused on enhancing high-quality human resources and successfully deploying many advanced techniques in health care service, according to Second-degree specialist doctor Le Van Khoa, the Director of the Department of Health.
