Than River Reservoir project inaugurated

Amid the jubilant atmosphere celebrating the 1st Congress of the Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee for the 2025–2030 term, Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee held the inauguration ceremony for Than River Reservoir project in Anh Dung Commune on September 20.

Present at the event were Nghiem Xuan Thanh, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee; Trinh Minh Hoang, Vice-Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Le Huu Tri, Deputy Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation; former provincial leaders; members of the Provincial Party Standing Committee; leaders of departments, agencies and localities and residents in the construction area.

This is one of the key projects of the province to mark the 1st Congress of Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee, term 2025 - 2030. Starting in 2018, the project has so far completed the following items: Main dam, including earth dam (longer than 1km) and gravity concrete dam (more than 304m) with the dam crest design elevation more than 141m. The project also has 2 auxiliary dams, with a total length of 417.8m. The total investment of the project is more than VND1,040 billion funded by the government bonds, central budget capital and local budget.

With a capacity of 85 million m3 of water, Than River Reservoir project is designed to supply water for daily life, industries and irrigation for 4,500ha of cultivated land in the downstream area, bringing direct benefits to local communities, mitigating the adverse impacts of drought, water shortage in the dry season and floods in the rainy season. In addition, the reservoir is also a source of water for daily use in the downstream area, providing additional water for the Lanh Ra, Ta Ranh and Bau Zon reservoirs, and supplying water for other economic activities in the southern region of the province.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Vice-Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Trinh Minh Hoang confirmed the great significance of the project in supporting local production and enhancing the quality of life for residents in the project area, contributing to the protection and development of upstream forests, improving the microclimate, environment and ecosystem in the area. Besides, the project is expected to develop aquaculture within the reservoir, mitigate flooding in the downstream area and create a pleasant environment for tourism development.
