Youth join natural disaster relief efforts

In recent days, Youth Union members and young people in Khanh Hoa Province have joined forces with local authorities to help residents recover from the floods.

Practical "Zero-dong" vegetable stalls

On November 28, the Dien Commune Youth Union opened two "zero-dong" vegetable stalls where volunteers carefully packed fresh produce into plastic bags, each containing a mix of mustard greens, Malabar spinach, squash, pumpkin, potatoes, cucumbers and more. These bags were then made available for residents to come and get quickly, offering timely support to families in need.

Phan Dinh Dau, Deputy Secretary of Dien Commune Youth Union, said, “On November 28, the Commune Youth Union set up two zero-dong vegetable stalls at the Commune Party Committee and the Commune Fatherland Front Committee headquarters. Many residents arrived early in the morning to receive free vegetables. Because the floods wiped out much of the harvest, people’s demand for vegetables has grown significantly. We worked to distribute supplies fairly, giving priority to families most affected. Each stall received nearly one ton of vegetables during the day to meet people’s needs. The initiative is expected to continue until December 2.”

Since November 26, zero-dong vegetable stalls organized by the Youth Union in several localities have helped meet essential needs in the aftermath of the floods. “Right now, vegetables are scarce and prices are higher than usual. After the floods, people face many difficulties, so these zero-dong stalls are really practical and helpful,” said Nguyen Thi Lan Phuong, a resident of Tay Nha Trang Ward.

Ongoing volunteer activities for recovery

On November 27 and 28, young volunteers assisted residents at free motorbike repair sites, helping them organize and fix their vehicles. The program was jointly carried out by the Department of Construction, the Provincial Military Command, the Provincial Youth Union, and Khanh Hoa Motorcycle Technical Association to support people in overcoming flood-related damage.

In addition, the Provincial Youth Union and Student Association have supported young people affected by the floods. On November 28, Provincial Youth Union leaders delivered more than 500 welfare bags, funded by the Central Youth Union, to students of Khanh Hoa University. Each bag, valued at VND 500,000, contained dry food, a flashlight, a towel, toothpaste, a toothbrush and a raincoat.

Student Huynh Dong, from the Physics Pedagogy Class (Natural Sciences), Course 7 at Khanh Hoa University, shared: “After the flood, my family and many other students at the school suffered heavy losses. The aid package from the Central Youth Union and the Provincial Youth Union is very practical and gives me encouragement to quickly return to daily life.”

Huynh Thi Nhu Y, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, President of the Provincial Student Association, said, "The Youth Union at all levels in the province continued to deploy activities and coordinate with localities and units to carry out tasks to support people to overcome the consequences of natural disasters. In addition to the above activities, the Provincial Youth Union and the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union donated 600 gifts, each including VND1 million in cash along with school supplies and necessities to students of Hoang Hoa Tham High School (Dien Khanh Commune); Nguyen Dinh Chieu High School, Vinh Phuong Primary School (Tay Nha Trang Ward); Dien Primary School, Dien Phu Primary School (Dien Commune) and gave thousands of necessities to students in flood-affected areas".

In the coming days, Youth Union members and young people will continue volunteer activities in flood-stricken areas. With a pioneering spirit, Khanh Hoa’s youth aim to help residents quickly stabilize and rebuild their lives.
