According to figures released by the Department of Agriculture & Rural Development, the total fisheries yield is estimated at 93,000 tons in 2009. Due to unfavorable weather, there was a sharp drop in aquaculture yield, prawn down 32.2%, fish and other sea creatures down 45.5%.
In 2010, the total aquaculture area is expected to reach 9,593ha.
