| Women play an important role in building up a happy family life. |
In the period 2006-2010, Vietnam women’s Union launched many poverty-alleviation movements which promoted women’s mutual relationship, creativeness and diligence to overcome difficulties in life. Workdays, non-interest loans and seedlings have been offered to many women to boost production to improve their income. Over the past 5 years, 12, 914 women have been granted seedlings, workdays and loans worth VND19 billion.
Together with the emulation in production, thousands of women have joined the so-called Saving Movements with the savings accounting for 10% of the total capital granted by the women’s Union. 27,224 women in 2,145 savings groups have saved some VND55 billion which helped many to start and expand business breaking the cycle of poverty. Typical examples included women’s unions of Ninh Hoa, Nha Trang, Dien Khanh, Cam Ranh, Cam Lam, Van Ninh, Khanh Hoa Police and Khanh Hoa Labour Federation. 15, 482 women’s households have been given capitals and 5,047 accounting for 32.6% have been lifted out of poverty.
In addition, hard work and creativeness have led many to a wealthy life. Many have become successful employers creating thousands of job opportunities for women. Besides, many have also contributed to social charity activities. Typical examples included Le Nhu Can, owner of a girdle cake and rice noodles establishment in Dien Khanh, Nguyen Thi Thu Nguyet in Dien Khanh, Nguyen Thi Phuoc, Head of Suot Duong Establishment (Nha Trang City) specialized in handicraft products, Nguyen Thi Kim Hang, owner of Anh Thu Establishment specialized in fine art paintings and stone jewelry creating 60 job opportunities for women, etc.
The emulation movement has also played an important role in building up a happy family life. Many women who are obedient children and responsible wives and mothers have been praised. Many have made many sacrifices for the whole family. They have overcome great difficulties in life and become a material and mental support for other family members. Tran Thi Oanh in Van Ninh is among typical examples. Her husband is suffering from mental disorder and her parents- in-law are very old. All the family burden is put on her. Nguyen Thi Thu, a worker at Cafico Vietnam Joint Stock Company has proved to be a successful mother. Her two children won Le Quy Don scholarships. One won a scholarship for talented IT students and the other won the Provincial Excellent Student Contest 2007. Teacher Nguyen Thi An, Ninh Phung Primary School, Ninh Hoa, is the only earning member of the family as her husband became paralyzed after an accident. Her children are now engineers.
To be part of a thriving and happy family takes women’s commitment and enormous effort. Khanh Hoa women have contributed greatly to the fight against poverty and development of happy families.
