The first family health care training course attended by 29 trainees has just ended adding to primary health care staff in Khanh Hoa Province.

The family healthcare faculty was founded in the 60s of the 20th century. Family healthcare has grown in popularity in developed countries a long time ago and was first set up in Vietnam in 2003. Family health care is a primary care medical practice. Family physicians are the first medical practitioners contacted by patients due to ease of communication, accessible location, familiarity, etc. Family healthcare is a new medical department in Khanh Hoa Province.
A project memorandum on the improvement of primary health care in rural areas through a new training program of Hue Medical University and Khanh Hoa Health Department was signed in August 2006 by US’s Maine Center, Hue Medical University and Khanh Hoa Health Department. Accordingly, Hue Medical University is responsible for developing a family medicine faculty in Khanh Hoa and the Khanh Hoa Health Department for promoting the establishment of a family health care training center. Ninh Hoa Medical Center is chosen to build and develop the center.
The first course opened in late 2007 and ended in March 2010 and with the participation of 29 trainees from medical stations in 7 districts and towns in Khanh Hoa. The second course held in 2008 was attended by 27 trainees from medical stations and Khanh Hoa General Hospital. Dr. Truong Tan Minh, Director of Khanh Hoa Heath Care Department said, “The courses will help reduce overcrowding at district and provincial hospitals.”
As planned, a family health care faculty will be set up in Khanh Hoa General Hospital and Ninh Hoa Medical Center to create a family health care network from local to provincial levels.
