Khanh Hoa Forest Product Company, established in 1988, is a State-own enterprise, majoring in managing, protecting and growing forest, exploiting and processing wood for export. Over 22 years, the company has been an advanced unit of Khanh Hoa Province’s agricultural branch. In 16 successive years (1994 – 2009), the company fulfilled the targets. Especially, it is always good at forest management and protection and forest fire prevention.

Khanh Hoa Forest Product Company has been entrusted to manage 46,156 hectares of forests, located in eight mountainous communes of Khanh Vinh District, namely Khanh Phu, Song Cau, Khanh Thanh, Khanh Thuong, Lien Sang, Cau Ba, Giang Ly and Son Thai. From 2003 up to now, to take the initiative in material source, the company has grown 444,3 hectares of economic forests, tens of which are supplying wood for woodwork processing for export. In 2009, despite the global economic downturn, the company exported 673m3 of refined wood abroad, getting a turnover of nearly VND13.6 billion and exceeding the target by 74.34%.
To raise competition competency, the company has invested more than VND1.1 billion to build up wood and woodwork processing workshops. Additionally, it often launches emulation movements among workers to promote their activeness and creation. Accordingly, the company gets an average turnover of VND30 – 35 billion per year, creating stable jobs for 214 workers with an average income of VND3 million/month each.
Beside this, Khanh Hoa Forest Product Company always attaches special importance to forest management and protection and forest fire prevention. Basing on administrative boundaries between communes, the company has built up five forest management and protection stations at key points to patrol and control forests stringently. Moreover, a fire forest prevention command has been set up to direct firefighting techniques and forces. The company also cooperates with the local army and authority to protect forests, propagandizes fire prevention to all the residents and has them to sign commitments not to burn off land for cultivation.
From 2006 till now, there has been no fire in forests under the company’s management and deforestation saw a sharp decrease. Additionally, forestry socialization has showed its efficiency. Many local people have been convinced to enter into fixed-price contracts to protect, grow and take care of forests and process wood. Then, the company has created stable jobs for more than 300 laborers, prevented illegal forest product exploitation and transport, deforestation for cultivation and shifting cultivation of wandering hilltribes and helped ethnic minority people to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty.
Production and business of the company now have gone stable and developed firmly. With above-said achievement, in 2009, the company was granted Second-class Labor Medal by the government and three its employees were given a Second-class Labor Medal, a Third-class labor Medal and a certificate of merit.
