To promote the elderly’s role, over the past years, the Association for the Elderly of Van Ninh District has focused on the campaign to do business. In spite of old age, many have worked successfully contributing to poverty alleviation. They have been good examples for younger generations to follow.

At present, Van Ninh Association for the Elderly has over 7,350 members . The elderly’s role has been effectively promoted as they have actively participated in the campaign “Old age, good example” in all sectors including business, education and social security contributing to the poverty alleviation and a healthy living environment.

Besides, the association has set up gratitude fund, fund for the poor and Study Promotion Fund. Old people’s role in doing business has also been promoted. 277 members have been recognized to be good businessmen bringing great profit to their families. Their effort has been seen as an encouragement for their children to study and work harder.

The elderly’s long lifetime has seen the valuable accumulation of knowledge, living experience and wisdom. 67-year-old Trinh Dau in Phu Cang Village, Van Phu Commune, Van Ninh District, is well-known for his successful farming. On an only 4ha land, he has cultivated rice, vegetables, fruit trees and raise poultry earning VND40 million a year. Besides, he has joined social work. He is presently the chief of the local division of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and President of Red Cross Association of Van Phu Commune. Young people really do like their elders. The great effort and experience of the elderly are valuable. The old people have also been active in preserving traditional arts, showing examples in keeping good customs and practices, fighting against social evils, and building civilized communities and cultural families.
