Located western of Ninh Hoa District, Khanh Hoa Province, Ninh Thuy has made great effort to overcome difficulties and become one of the most prosperous communes.

There are 2,564 families with 11,636 people in Ninh Thuy. 50% of the population are living by fishing and trading. The locals’ living standards have much improved. No poor household according to the poverty standard was reported in 2009. With glorious feat of arms, Ninh Thuy was awarded 2 second-ranking Medals of Liberation and 1 third-ranking Medal of Liberation. 14 women were recognized the title “Heroic Mother” and the commune was granted the title “Hero of the People’s Armed Forces” in 2000.
After the war, people in Ninh Thuy faced severe economic difficulties. However, great effort and diligence have lifted many out of poverty. Particularly, over the past 5 years, the locals’ living standard has improved significantly. The local industry has changed from inshore fishing to offshore fishing, aquaculture and trade.
Fishing industry has become the mainstay of the economy. There are some 336 boats with an annual average yield output of 4,000 tons. The local state budget revenue has increased by 10-15%/ year. In 2009, 77,92% (1,797 out of 2,306) of the families won the title “Cultural family”. 100% of children aged 5 or 6 have had access to schooling. 30 high school students won the entrance exams to university. The rate of malnourished children fell to 13.76%. No poor household was reported according to the national poverty standard.
Inter-village and inter-commune roads have been asphalted. Many amusement parks and high building have been built. Nguyen Thanh Dung, Deputy Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ninh Thuy Commune said, “in the coming 5 years, the commune plans to transfer the local economic structure in the direction of industry, agriculture and service. Specifically, service structure and state budget revenue are expected to increase by 10%/year on average. Besides, the commune will strive to complete the compulsory high school education program by 2015, national standard high schools.
