The Politburo, including President Nguyen Minh Triet, member of the Politburo, Ho Duc Viet, member of the Politburo, Chief of the central organizing board, Le Thanh Hai, member of politburo, Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee and delegates of central ministries and agencies held a working session in Hanoi on August 9, 2010 with leaders of Khanh Hoa Province on the preparation for the 16th Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Congress. The following is Nguyen Minh Triet’s speech recorded by Khanh Hoa Newspaper.
The central ministries and agencies agree with the evaluation of Khanh Hoa Province and highly appreciate the great effort of the Party Committee, government and people of Khanh Hoa Province over the past 5 years. All the targets have been fulfilled or exceeded. Local people’s living standard has much improved. Social security and national defense are secured. Khanh Hoa has gained a high growth rate, GDP at USD1,500/year, higher than the national average figure. Particularly, Khanh Hoa has strived for a higher position. Its prestige has been confirmed at home and abroad.

However, the central province of Khanh Hoa should take more advantage of its potentials. Khanh Hoa is one of the Vietnam’s most attractive tourist sites, but it is not as famous as many other tourist destinations in the region and around the world. Other shortcomings include small industrial size and limited technological application. More investment in cultural promotion is required. Although satisfied with the achievements, we should be fully aware of challenges and shortcomings. Khanh Hoa enjoys a great natural favorable conditions with all modes of transport, including air, rail, road and water. Khanh Hoa boasts an international airport, Van Phong Bay and numerous natural attractions. Especially, the Truong Sa Archipelago in Khanh Hoa Province is the strength which should be promoted. Khanh Hoa should strive for faster development for the sake of itself, the southern central region and the whole country. Therefore, I want Khanh Hoa to maintain its rapid economic growth and speed it up in the coming five years, to 12-13% or even higher.
Khanh Hoa must create a breakthrough in socio-economic development. Long-term projects are required for rural land, agriculture, urban areas and other services. Environmental protection must be assured. I would like to emphasize that the strength of Khanh Hoa includes not only tourism services, but also transshipment and other high-grade services such as credit, banking, insurance, etc contributing to the local economic growth. Key economic works, including a petrochemical refinery factory, thermo-electric factory and Van Phong Seaport should be promoted. Great effort must be made in the development of cultural activities, medical care, education and poverty alleviation. The training of workforce must be focused.
By the way, I would like to focus on Truong Sa Island District. Khanh Hoa has done a good job in investing in Truong Sa. All the three proposals of Khanh Hoa are logical. Economic development is the highlight of not only Khanh Hoa but also the whole country. We support the project of Ho Chi Minh City- Nha Trang Highway.
