Ninh Hoa takes initiative in flood control

Great effort is taken to get welll- prepared for flood rescue.
A flash flood in 2009 killed 9 people, and did damage estimated at VND46.6 billion to crops and property. To minimize damage caused by flood, since the beginning of the year 2010, Ninh Hoa District has made plans on flood control and rescue.

High-risk flood areas include coastal areas such as the communes of Ninh Ich, Ninh Hai, Ninh Thuy, Ninh Phuoc and Ninh Van. Areas with high risk of landslides and broken dams are Ninh Tay, Ninh Sim, Ninh Tan, Ninh Thuong, Ninh Son, Ninh Loc and Ninh Ich.

Besides, high-risk flood areas due to landslides and broken dams such as the communes of Da Ban, Suoi Trau Lake, Ea Krong Rou and So Quan Lake. Officials are on 24-hour standby to make periodical reports to the Khanh Hoa flood control management board on the work of flood and storm prevention and combat.

The flood control board of coastal communes with a large fishermen population need to cooperate with border guards to inform fishermen of the storm advances, get prepared to move boats to safety and evacuate residents from high-risk areas. The local authorities have made plans on storm and flood prevention and natural disaster relief, ensuring the communication network as well the flood warning and forecasting systems.

Sufficient means of transport for flood rescue work are available, including cars of the district road transport collective, 15 lorries of cargo transport collective, 6 lorries of installment companies No. 1 and No.2 and many more. Besides, waterway means of transport, including 8 40-60CV boats of Ninh Thuy Commune and 4 45CV boats of Ninh Phuoc Commune. Moreover, roads are regularly examined to assure smooth traffic.

Ninh Hoa has taken great effort to get well-prepared for the rainy season. Hopefully, the detailed flood control schemes will work to help minimize damage caused by flooding.
