Many intangible cultural heritages of humanity in Khanh Hoa Province are gradually being lost in oblivion. Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee has just decided to establish a steering inventory board of intangible cultural heritages. This initiative promises to preserve cultural quintessence of ancestors in the community.

Intangible cultural heritages mean the practices, representations, expressions, knowledge, skills – as well as the instruments, objects, etc that communities, recognize as part of their cultural heritage. Khanh Hoa is considered to contain many intangible cultural heritages, which have not been detected and protected effectively.

Intangible cultural heritages are passed orally within a community, but the number of the tradition bearers has decreased rapidly due to their old age. Therefore, Khanh Hoa People’s Committee has issued Decision No 3138 on the establishment of inventory board of intangible cultural heritages in Khanh Hoa Province in an effort to ensure better protection of important intangible cultural heritages throughout the province and public awareness of their significance.

During 5 years (2011-2015), the board members will conduct a survey to get the exact number of intangible cultural heritages and their situations; suggest protection methods; submit the application for the national list of intangible cultural heritages. The local intangible cultural heritages are reported to include Raglai people’s story singing, Raglai people’s ancient stories, Bo ma ceremony, Khanh Son Lithophone, Ponagar Temple Festival, Am Chua Festival, fish source production in Vinh Truong, Ninh Hoa fermented pork rolls, etc.

In 2011, the steering inventory board of intangible cultural heritages will make survey trips to search for and collect all the materials related to intangible cultural heritages in 972 groups and villages in 138 communes and towns in Khanh Hoa Province.

The decision has drawn attention to the importance of safeguarding intangible heritages, which can ensure the development and prosperity of future generations. This is a promising sign for safeguarding intangible heritages in Khanh Hoa Province.
