Vocational training and job creation are among strategic priorities aiming to reduce the unemployment rate and increase people’s living standards. Over the past years, Nha Trang City has worked toward ensuring access to employment and career advancement opportunities.
As a center of culture, economics and national defence of Khanh Hoa Province, Nha Trang City has seen a high demand for labor required by 4,150 businesses operating in a variety of sectors. Nguyen Thi Binh, Chief of Nha Trang Bureau of Labor, Invalids & Social Affairs said, “Nha Trang Bureau of Labor, Invalids & Social Affairs in association with vocational schools and local enterprises has opened short-term and intermediate training courses focusing on high demand industries.”
In 2010, over 6,900 people were provided vocational training. The local authority also mobilized employers to create opportunities for their workers to get on-the-job training. In addition, many organizations and enterprises in Nha Trang City have also joined effort to provide employment opportunities for the locals with such initiatives as preferential credit, job creation fund, job fairs, etc.
Nha Trang City has allocated the national employment fund to help the locals to have access to the funding to boost their business. 220 job creation loan projects have been examined and approved with a total expenditure of VND4 billion. Besides, Nha Trang City in cooperation the Department of Labor, Invalids & Social Affairs has held job fairs to provide opportunities for employers, recruiters and schools to meet with prospective job seekers. In 2010, additional 9,000 people were employed.
Under the project “Vocational training for rural laborers by 2020”, Nha Trang City has conducted a survey on vocational training demand in rural areas. The project has been carried out in order to increase the supply of jobs to achieve long-term, sustainable improvement in the workforce development.
