Swiss MS Turanor PlanetSolar, the largest solar-powered boat in the world, docked at Nha Trang Port on August 29. The entirely solar powered boat is on its first expedition around the globe with the aim to focus the public awareness on the importance of renewable energies for environmental protection. The journey started in Monaco on September 27, 2010. Its stopover in Nha Trang will last till September 1, and then it will head to Singapore.
The USD17 million boat was built by Knierim Yachtbau in Kiel, Germany. It is covered in over 500 square meters of solar panels rated 93 kW, which in turn connect to one of the two electric motors in each hull. This 31 meter long and 16 meter wide boat has been designed to be used as a luxury yacht.
