Customers coming to the blind’s massage centers hope to relax, retain health, relive stress or ease aches and pains. The owners of a massage center on Huynh Thuc Khang Street, Nha Trang City are a disabled man named Nguyen Anh Tuan and one of his blind friends.
“After completing a massage and acupressure course at the National Rehabilitation Center for the Blind in Hanoi, I began to start my own business with the massage center, which opened in October, 2007,” said Tuan.
Services available include sauna, acupuncture, and medical massage to deal with backache, headache and so on. The massage helps to enhance function in the healing process and promote relaxation and well-being. He added, “My workplace has provided employment for many visually-impaired people.”
26-year-old Do Thi Kim Thoa from Quang Ngai Province said, “I have finished a vocational course but I cannot go to work because of my poor eyesight. I used to nurse a complex about my situation. Everything has changed since I worked here. Now I feel confident.” Thoa can earn VND1 million/ month excluding her daily expenses.
The other co-owner is a massage therapist named Nhung, 33, said, “I lost my sight since I was in the 7th form. Then I attended a 6-month massage course. Now I feel happy as I can support myself financially.”
“Although the income is not high, but I am very pleased with the present job,” added another masseur named Huong, 33.
Over 5 massage centers run by the blind have been opened in Nha Trang City, including 2 on Hoa Lu Street and Huynh Thuc Khang Street with over 10 staff.
