Variety of gifts for Teachers’ Day

Vietnamese Teachers’ Day (November 20) is approaching. The market for gifts in Nha Trang City is buoyant. Teacher’s Day is the time when one can pay a tribute to his or her teachers and appreciate all their efforts.

A wide variety of items for the Teacher Appreciation Day are available in supermarkets, bookstores and souvenir shops. Many special promotion and discount are offered to customers.

The shelves for gifts at Phuong Nam Bookshop and Fahasa Bookshop (Nha Trang) are placed right at the front-doors to attract shoppers’ attention.

Nguyen Thanh Hung, Chief of Phuong Nam Bookshop said, “This year, handbooks, purses, calendars and pens are best-selling. A ready-packaged gift is available ranging from VND100,000 to 400,000.

For example, a gift box costs VND77,000 - VND195,000 containing pens, a handbook and a greeting card; VND230,000 with a greeting card and a tea-pot set.

Particularly, tear-off and desk calendars 2012 first produced by Phuong Nam Company are cute gifts on the special day. A desk calendar is priced at VND30,000 – VND70,000 and a tear-off calendar at VND250,000. The items are selling well, according to Nguyen Thanh Hung.”

Presents for the Teacher’s Day can be seen at Fahasa Bookshop from mid-October 2011. Such items as handbooks, pens, CDs, cosmetics, etc are popular choices. A ready-packaged gift ranges from VND150,000 to VND300,000.

Many other items include vases, calligraphy stone slabs and many more. Mr. Tran Thanh Phuong, Chief of Fahasa Bookshop said, “We have more items for the Teachers’ Day than last year.”

There is a slight decrease in the cost of jewel boxes and glass items, and a 10% increase in the cost of handbooks and gift boxes. Reportedly, from 17 to 20 of November, 10% discount and free package are offered for pens and handbooks. Regular customers at Phuong Nam Bookshop can enjoy 5 - 10% discount.

Traditional gifts like cosmetics and cloth are no longer on the best-selling list. A woman named My Dao, Tran Quy Cap Street, Nha Trang said, “Some students share the cost of such expensive gifts as laptops and cooker sets”.

A group of arts students at Nha Trang College of Culture, Art & Tourism are busy with designing greeting cards for their teachers. A second-year student named Minh Hoang said, “I think gifts for teachers are not necessarily expensive. The most important thing is learners’ gratitude.”

Actually, gifts are only meaningful when they are offered accompanied with love and respect.
