All plans, programs and projects in Khanh Hoa Province likely to have significant effects on the environment have been made subject to an environmental assessment, prior to their approval or authorization.
The province has directed the Department of Environment & Natural Resources to manage high-risk zones, including the Nha Trang City’s dumping ground, Hyundai Vinashin Shipyard, Suoi Dau Industrial Zone, Cam Ranh Shipping Port, Nha Trang Textile Company, etc.
The management of medical waste disposal has much improved. Medical solid waste is collected, classified and segregated from other types of waste at the point of origin.
Biohazardous waste is stored and handled according to good health and safety practices and in compliance with applicable regulations.
Nevertheless, environmental violation concerning improper waste transportation, storage and handling are still founded in some enterprises such as a small slaughter-house in Phuoc Hai Ward and fishing net weaving establishments in Vinh Phuoc, Vinh Hoa. Illegal and unregulated exploitation of minerals and extraction of sand from the river bed still happen.
Environmental protection plan 2012 at a total expected cost of VND31 billion focuses on dealing with environmental pollution sites, preventing environmental violation, conserving biodiversity and managing waste.
Tasks concerning environmental protection often focus on the role of government, legislation and enforcement. However, environmental protection is actually the responsibility of all people and not simply that of government.
All organizations and individuals need to join effort to fight environmental pollution.
