Through the restoration of Dr. Yersin’s Grave Vestige, Khanh Hoa residents would like to express gratitude to Dr. Yersin for his great contribution to Khanh Hoa land.
Alexandre Emile Jean Yersin or Dr Yersin passed away 7 decades ago but what he had done for the world health care remain for ever and ever.
Nha Trang- Khanh Hoa Province is proud to be a place where Dr. Yersin remembered as the co-discoverer of the bacillus responsible for the bubonic plague or pest had used to work and spent his rest life.
Historical vestiges related to the name Yersin include Nha Trang Pasteur Institute, Yersin’s Grave and Linh Son Pagoda (Suoi Dau), of which Yersin’s Grave has been recognized a historical vestige.
As time went by, Dr. Yersin’s Grave Vestige has been gradually damaged and the restoration project on Dr. Yersin’s Grave Vestige approved by Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee in 2004 is required to be soon implemented.
Nguyen Chien Thang, Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee, told Nguyen Thi The Tram, Former Director of Nha Trang Pasteur Institute, Chairwoman of Yersin Admirers’ Association, “We are willing to get all ideas and suggestions about the restoration in an attempt to accurately keep its heritage value. The site will be made more accessible to visitors."
Reportedly, VND1 billion from the provincial budget is spent on the path leading to the vestige and another VND2 billion on restoration work is donated by an enterprise whose owner wants to show gratitude to the beloved scientist.
Hopefully, the restoration project on Dr. Yersin’s Grave Vestige is appreciated and supported by all local residents and visitors in Khanh Hoa.
