Le Xuan Hanh, Head of the representative board of the local association for the elderly said, “We have sought donations from organizations, individuals and the local government. VND6 billion has been raised for the old age fund in Khanh Hoa Province."
The fund has helped to improve the quality of life for old people on low incomes. Many old people have been provided better medical care.
In 2011, 11,350 old people have been granted medical insurance cards and over 30,370 have had access to free medical checkups. Longevity ceremonies have been held for some 5,000 people. In addition, gifts have been offered on traditional and national days.
Besides, many musical and sporting activities have been held to assure a pleasant mental and physical life. Thanks to the community support, senior citizens have proved their active roles in society in setting good examples for younger generations to follow.
With wealth of valuable living experience, many old people have joined in social activities to fight against social evils for a safe and sound environment.
The Association for the Elderly, Dien Xuan Branch, Dien Khanh District, has held many practical activities to raise fund for the aged.
The initial capital of VND30 million was invested in loans offered to its members with a 3%/month interest, a 600m2 land for gathering and for rental, and a hearse for funeral services.
Vo Cang Association Branch, Vinh Trung Commune, Nha Trang City, has raised VND40 million by using 100 saving boxes. Many poverty alleviation activities have been held thanks to the support fund.
The association for the elderly works to ensure that all old people live with comfort and security. However, more funding is required for better care for healthy living in old age.
