On the occasion of the coming 2012 Lunar New Year, centenarians have been rewarded gifts by the government congratulating them for their longevity.
Accordingly, forty-five 100-year-old people in Khanh Hoa Province received congratulations and gifts, each containing VND500,000 and 5m of cloth.
Luu Thi Tao, 100 years old, Phu Thu, Ninh Giang, Ninh Hoa Town said, "I am very happy to receive support and concern from the government."
"I am 100 years old. The gift from the State President is such a great honor for me," added Huynh De, Quang Cu Village, Ninh Trung Commune, Ninh Hoa Town.
The small gifts sent to the elderly as a New Year greeting helping to encourage them to continue with their happy and healthy lifestyle and set good examples for younger generations to follow.
Thanks to the concerns of the government at various levels, the number of old age people in Khanh Hoa Province has much increased. The elderly have had great contributions by their staying active and involved socially.
Le Xuan Hanh, Chief of the Representative Board of Khanh Hoa Association for the Elderly, said, “The new year gifts are in honor of their longevity. The elderly’s long lifetime has seen the valuable accumulation of knowledge, living experience and wisdom.
The elderly have been given concern from the government and the whole community in order to help old people to lead a happy and comfortable life, especially on Tet, the most important national holiday and festival."
As we see the old year out, we all hope that this year will bring happiness and success for all of us and for our nation. New Year is a also good chance for us to express our love and respect for seniors.
