In recent years, more and more vegetarian restaurants have opened in Nha Trang City. A vegetarian diet is a popular trend among not only the elderly but also youngsters for both religious practice and health reasons.

Vegetarian diets tend be lower in fat and higher in fiber. The staples of the vegetarian diet are fruits, vegetables, legumes, grains, seeds and nuts.

Vegetarian dishes are served in many shops and restaurants, including Hong An (34 Hong Bang), Thien Y (79 Yersin St.), Thien Huong (107 Tran Nhat Duat St.), Ai Thao Lu (119 Nguyen Trai St.), Co Tam (Lac Long Quan St.), Bo De (Huynh Thuc Khang St.), House of Compassion on Hung Vuong St., Nha Trang and so on.

Over 100 traditional and national dishes are served in the shape of beef, pork, chicken, eggs, etc.

Thien Y is perhaps the most-visited vegetarian restaurant in Nha Trang City. During monthly vegetarian days, on the first and fifteenth of every lunar calendar month, Thien Y is crowded with customers, including many tourists.

A wide range of dishes including "pork" soup, "beef" soup and curried "chicken" are available for customers' choice.

Thien Duyet is also a favorite place of many vegetarians for its delicious dishes and peaceful atmosphere. Besides main courses, many dishes available for dessert include sweet soup, fruit cocktail, fruit juice and so on.

Many owners of vegetarian restaurants are meat-free food lovers. Phan Thi Hoa, an owner of Hong An Restaurant said, "I have kept a vegetarian diet for many years," adding that "Additives are very important for vegetarian food. Mix ingredients with additives well before cooking. Preparing a vegetarian meal requires patience and time. "

Influenced by Buddhist values, vegetarian diets have become Vietnamese traditional food culture which can be promoted as an attractive tourist product.
