SAR 2701 vessel of Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Co – Ordination Center rescued and towed a distressed fishing ship named QNa 90019 TS with 47 seamen to Nha Trang Port safely on March 20.

At 4:40 pm on March 19, Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Co – Ordination Center received a request for help from QNa 90019 TS ship which was reportedly “dead on water” since March 17 at vicinity 40 Nautical Miles East off Nha Trang beach. The ship then had 47 crew, three of whom were very weak and the other were demoralized.

Immediately, general director of the center Nguyen Anh Vu appointed SAR 2701 vessel, captain by Nguyen Van Hoa and 17 crew to start out rescue and then he flied from Hanoi to Nha Trang to direct the rescue.

The distressed ship informed its position wrongly three times, which caused a lot of difficulties to the rescue vessel SAR 2701. However, after 4 hours of intensive searching in the dark, SAR 2701 found the distressed ship drifting at 77 Nautical Miles East off Nha Trang beach.

After that, SAR 2701 towed QNa 90019 TS to land Nha Trang safely. All 47 seamen have been saved. This has been the rescue case saving the most people in Vietnam so far. The 47 seamen have been given health care at Khanh Hoa Province Border Force and will be sent to their hometown soon.
