The Department of Culture, Sport & Tourism has held a meeting with representatives of local agencies on a plan to celebrate Earth Hour 2012.

Accordingly, the Department of Communications & Information, Khanh Hoa Television & Radio, Khanh Hoa Newspaper and other news agencies of Nha Trang City, Cam Ranh City and Ninh Hoa Town were asked to publicize the meaning and purposes of Earth Hour 2012 as well as local organizations and individuals’ activities responding to the global initiative.

All people are encouraged to switch off their lights from 20h30-21h30 on March 31 in the framework of Earth Hour 2012.

Under the direction of Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee, Nha Trang City People’s Committee has made a plan to carry out activities to mark the Earth Hour 2012 as well as the 35th anniversary of Nha Trang Town’s being upgraded into city (March 30, 1977-2012).

An art program will take place from 20h30 to 21h30 on March 31 with the participation of local actors and actresses.

After an opening speech, a countdown will begin until 20h30 when all the lights at 2-4 Square and decoration lights of hotels on Tran Phu Street will be switched off.

During the electricity-free hour, 200 young people will arrange candles in a shape of the number 60, representing the 60 minutes of Earth Hour. The annual lights out event has become one of the world’s largest display of environmental action.

Hundreds of millions of people, businesses and governments around the world join the eco-blackout each year to show their support to environmentally sustainable action, sending a powerful message for action on climate change.
