During the days of March, in towns like Cam Ranh and Ninh Hoa or in mountainous districts like Khanh Vinh, we can see volunteer youth unionists in blue uniform doing useful works with their whole heart. This force has contributed to improving localities, especially remote area.

. Youth strength everywhere

Coming to Son Thai Commune, Khanh Vinh District one day, we witnessed volunteer youth unionists working wholeheartedly with an aim to make the mountainous commune Son Thai better. Taking us to Ben Loi field where 8 unionists of Son Thai Volunteer Youth Team were cleaning a ditch for the local people, team leader Phung Quang Nhat said, “Our team has 8, including 2 girls. From many localities in the province, we have come here with a desire to contribute to improving this mountainous commune. So far, our team have done some effective works to help the local people.”

“Life of a volunteer youth is still difficult but we consider here as our home and try our best to help the people here”, Le Thi Minh Tam, 22, told us while clearing bushes on the ditch taking water to fields.

After the simple lunch with forest vegetable and some catfish, the unionists began to take care of the flock of cricket they were raising. “The team has developed cricket raising model for several months. We have found good supply of breeding cricket, learned technologies and experience of cricket raising from many cricket farms, surveyed many markets and developed the raising with a hope to transfer this model to the local ethnic minorities”, said team leader Phung Quang Nhat.

Visiting Son Thai Commune People’s Committee, we saw two other unionists of the team named Le Minh Duc and Bui Minh Tho making up resident registration book for ethnic minority people.

“I have no resident registration book since I was born because I’m unlettered. Now, I have Son Thai volunteer youth unionists to write it for me to ask for supports from the Party and the State”, Ha Va in Giang Bien Commune confided.

According to Vo Xuan Canh, vice chairman of Son Thai Commune People’s Committee, for many years, volunteer youth unionists have contributed to improving awareness and life for the residents in the commune though practical actions such as calling farmers to cultivate and harvest on right time, guiding them agricultural technologies, mobilizing pupils to go to school, joining actively to movements of the commune, helping the solitary elderly, diseased and poor people. The local people always adore and trust them.

.  And social activities

Youth unionists, in blue uniform, also join in many other social activities. Coming to Cam Thuan Ward, Cam Ranh, we were told a lot of achievement of the youth.

“Cam Thuan is a center ward of Cam Ranh City and has conditions to develop economy. However, it causes many social evils, especially drugs which make more and more young people corrupt. In order to eradicate social evils, Cam Thuan Volunteer Social Activity Team was established in end 2006”, revealed Tran Thi Duoc, vice-captain of the team.

Accordingly, members of the team have propagandized and converted depraved people to mend their ways and become useful citizens. It’s not a simple work.

“For example, T.H.V, born in 1995, on drugs in 2004, suffered a complex and avoided social volunteers when they accessed him. However, member of Cam Thuan Volunteer Social Activity Team patiently helped him to give up drugs successfully. Now, he’s married and has a stable job”, added Tran Thi Duoc.

Giving up drugs, T.X.H becomes a youth unionists to help corrupt people.

We heard a similar case in Ninh Hiep Ward, Ninh Hoa District. T.X.H, born in 1979, she fell into drug trap unintentionally when she was only 20. With the help of other volunteer youth unionists, she gave up 5 years of drug addiction in the past and returned to the community. And now she has become a typical volunteer youth unionist for community life in Ninh Hiep. “I want to tell my real story to convert faulty people”, she confided.
