The extended dry, hot periods since the beginning of the year has put forests in Cam Lam District at the high risk of fire. Urgent measures have been taken to prevent fire to protect forest recourses.

Doan Ngoc Lam, Vice Chief of the Cam Lam Bureau of Agriculture & Rural Development says, "Cam Lam District has over 22,710 ha of forest, including 14,780 ha of natural forest and 7,930 ha of cultivated forest. 

Cam Lam District People's Committee has directed relevant agencies to take forest fire prevention measures. Cam Lam District has carried out measures to protect forests from burning in a dry season.

Propaganda campaigns have been launched to raise the public awareness of forest protection and fire control. In addition, fire-fighting scenario rehearsals have been held to give firemen a rigorous test as to whether or not their resilience and training is actually effective.

This year's dry season is expected to be longer than normal, so special precautions are required  to make sure fires are not carelessly ignited.

Hon Ba Natural Reserve management board has taken care of over 216.4ha of cultivated forest in the two communes of Suoi Cat and Suoi Tan and frequently remained a firebreak, 14km long, 8-10m wide.

The Cam Lam Protective forest management board in association with local authorities has implemented many fire control methods, including taking care of 569ha of cultivated forests, maintaining a 14km firebreak, patrolling, etc.

Nguyen Tri Tuan, Vice Chairman of Cam Lam District People's Committee says, long hot and dry days has caused the high risk of grassfire. Fire prevention has been enhanced through public education, patrols and monitoring. 

Forest cultivation is encouraged. Lighting fire for conversion of forests into agricultural land is banned.
