The local social care system is facing the lack of well-trained social care staff.

The Prime Minister’s Decision No. 32/2010/QD-TTg dated March 25, 2010 approving the scheme on social work development during 2010-2020 has opened employment chances for many social work students.

Social work seeks to improve the quality of life and wellbeing of an individual, group, or community by intervening through research, policy, community organizing, direct practice, and teaching on behalf of those suffering from poverty or any real or perceived social injustices.

Social workers acting as guides, advocates or critical friends work to provide support to enable service users to help themselves, . The profession works to protect vulnerable people, enhance relationships enabling people to have a happy and independent life.

They also have responsibility for standards of health care with the direction on promoting and protecting the public’s health, taking the lead on issues such as environmental hazards to health, infectious diseases, health promotion and education and ethical issues.

The local social care system is facing the limited number of well-trained social care staff at social service institutions. Skilled, dedicated social care workforce is required to ensure that children and adults are looked after in a way that preserves their dignity and peace of mind.

A recent survey of the sector of Labor, Invalids & Social Affairs shows that 418,000 people will need social care support up to 2015 and 475,000 up to 2020.

In the period 2011-2015, Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee will focus on the development of the social care provider network, including renovating Khanh Hoa Social Support Center, establishing Khanh Son District Social Support Center, Khanh Vinh District Social Support Center, Cam Ranh City Social Support Center (Cam Ranh, Cam Lam) and Ninh Hoa Town Social Support Center (Ninh Hoa, Van Ninh). Social care students will have more employment chances.

Tran Hiep, Vice director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Social Support Center says, "If you’re thinking about entering this rewarding, challenging profession, basic skills that you’ll need, for success as a social worker, include non-verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, assessment skills, therapy skills, etc."
