A new house seems to be an impossible dream for poor workers who have been struck by misfortune. Khanh Hoa Trade Union’s Housing Fund has brought them hope and happiness.

In a new 70m2 corrugated iron roof house, Le Thanh Hoang, a cadre in the information culture sector (Ninh Son Commune, Ninh Town), is happy saying, "My impossible dream has come true.

My house was reduced to ashes in 2012. All our properties were destroyed in a fire. We all managed to escape from the blaze which happened at 10p.m.

We were safe, but all our belongings were lost. We were completely broke. We had to set up a temporary cottage. 3 months later, thanks to the housing fund, we can have this new house. I am very happy and grateful.”

Nguyen Phuong Hung, a teacher at Tran Quoc Toan High School, Ninh Diem Commune, Ninh Hoa District, used to be in a bad living condition. He got married in 2008. His family with a 2-year-old daughter had to live in a dilapidated house.

"We earn a monthly income of only VND3.5 million, so we cannot afford a new house without the support of the housing fund," he says.

Pham Xuan Danh, Deputy Chairman of Khanh Hoa Confederation of Labor says the housing fund has assisted hundreds of poor workers in misfortune to build houses.

The housing fund is a combined effort of all working staff. It represents solidarity and mutual support helping to eliminate poverty and reinforce employees’ trust in the trade organization."

Every trade unionist donates VND10,000/ year. The small donation is very helpful, expressing solidarity contributing to poverty alleviation. This is one of the key tasks of the Khanh Hoa Trade Union at all levels.

Founded in 2007, Trade Union’s Housing Fund has financed the construction of 155 houses with a total cost of over VND3.2 billion, helping to build better life for the poor.
