Over the past 3 years, members of Blood Donor Club under Khanh Hoa Provincial Blood Transfusion & Haematology Center have donated thousands of blood units. Voluntary blood donors are the safest source of blood, compared to those who give blood for payment.
For the common's sake
Le Hoang Cuong, a member of the blood donor club said, "I have joined voluntary blood donation for nearly 30 years. When I was young, a friend of mine had a traffic accident and underwent surgery. Unfortunately, he needed blood transfusion but there was insufficinet blood supply.
Since then, I decided to do something about it, I do not want something similar to happen again by joining blood donation campaigns." He has also introduced his blood donor club to many people and urged them to join.
Another member named Le Thi Hong Anh, who has joined the club for 2 years and donated blood 6 times, says "Blood donation is really helpful, so I often advise many to join us." Many members of the club are students of Nha Trang University such as Huu Tung, Thanh Luan, Thuy Diem, Bao Anh, Bach Duong, etc..
Bach Duong says, "We are very happy and proud that our blood can save many lives. Since joining the club, each member has donated blood 5 or 6 times. Blood is vital for life. The common simple reason for their blood donation is the gift of life can help many people."
Preferential policies required for regular blood donors
Founded in September 2009, the blood donor club has gathered many voluntary blood donors in Khanh Hoa Province. After 3 years of establishment and development, the club has had over 2,000 members with hundreds of blood units donated every year.
Tran Thi Chi, Director of the Khanh Hoa Provincial Blood Transfusion & Haematology Center, says, "All the club members are very enthusiastic and ready for blood donation anytime when local hospitals needs."
Some have donated blood up to 25 times. They include Huynh Tuan Anh, Le Hoang Cuong, Ngo Nguyen Dang Khoa, Nguyen Thi Thu Trang. However, the demand for blood in medical centers has increased year by year, from 2,500 units 10 years ago to 5,000 units in 2009 and 7,000 units in 2011.
Therefore, for the sustainable development of the blood donation campaign, preferential policies are required for voluntary donors, for example grant of healthcare cards, free medical examination at lease once a year, etc.
The database of blood bank and donors is always kept to facilitate the effective tracking when necessary.
