The 2012 "Accompanying young fishermen at sea" program launched by Thanh Nien Newspaper has funded the construction of 5 houses worth VND40 million each donated to poor fishermen in Khanh Hoa Province.
The funding was from VND1 billion donated by GS Oil Vietnam. These are valuable gifts for young fishermen to overcome their difficulties.
A disabled fisherman named Huynh Thien Truy, 31, said, "I am lame due to a fever when I was 15 years old. I don't want to become a burden for my parents. I have difficulties in walking but I can swim well. I can earn VND1 million or up to 5 million from a fishing trip."
However, The income is not stable due to flooding. He finds it impossible to make ends meet. He's always worried about his dilapidated house where his old father is living.
The life of another poor fisherman named Nguyen Van Canh, 25, residing in Ninh Tinh Village, Ninh Phuoc Commune, Ninh Hoa Town is also a piteous story.
When he was a child, he fell down from a tree and broke his legs and arm. However, he could not afford operation. He has suffered from the pain for a long time and still headed for the open sea because he has a small family with two children to take care of.
"My house is very old and likely to collapse at any time. When at sea, I am always worried about the safety of my wife and my children, especially when rainy seasons come."
Launched in November 2011, "Accompanying young fishermen at sea" program launched by Thanh Nien Newspaper has become more and more popular.
The program has been funded by GS Oil Vietnam, PNJ, HDBank and many other individuals.
5 beneficiaries who have been offered houses worth VND40 million each in Khanh Hoa Province include Le Van Vinh (Ninh Tan Village, Van Thanh Commune, Van Ninh District), Nguyen van Canh (Ninh Tinh Village, Ninh Phuoc Commune, Ninh Hoa Town), Nguyen Dinh Thien (Group 6, Truong Son, Vinh Truong Ward, Nha Trang City), Vo Ngoc Thoai (Loi Phu, Cam Loi Ward, Cam Ranh City) and Huynh Thien Truy (Thuy Trieu Village, Cam Hai Dong Commune, Cam Lam District).
The 2012 "Accompanying young fishermen at sea" program is intended to make it easier for poor fishermen.
