81-year-old Nguyen Van Tieu is known as a famous craftsman with exclusive coconut shell products, which are available at home and abroad. After 40 years with the work, he has created various nice items made out of coconut shells.
At his house on lane 131, 2-4 Street, Nha Trang City, visitors are attracted by various coconut shell products, including home items such as lamps, cups, bowls, boxes, shelves, bells, and souvenirs such as clocks, dolls, drums, etc.
Nguyen van Tieu said, "The coconut products are made from my own ideas. I have had wakeful nights for new designs." Coconut shells can be used in so many ways.
Stunning products in excellent designs are a few words that can accurately describe his coconut handicraft. They are useful, decorative, and affordable.
Nguyen van Tieu takes the job by chance. He has had a chance to attend a craft course held by an international charity. Since then, with his great passion for handicraft, he has spent years creating items made out of coconut shells.
He has received many awards, such as Vietnam Quintessence 2004, Golden Globe in the Week for Tourism and Trade 2004 in Nha Trang, Coconut Craft Award at Ben Tre Coconut Festival 2012, etc.
His products are displayed in many resorts such as Vinpearl Land, Ana Mandara, etc.
His only concern now is transmitting his skills and knowledge to younger generations. He is old, so he does not have much time and strength for the work.
He intends to open handicraft classes for orphans from Thanh Son Pagoda (Cam Lam) , Vinh Luong (Nha Trang), Phu Huu Pagoda (Ninh Ich, Ninh Hoa).
He has suggested the Center for Industry & Trade Promotion, Department of Industry & Trade for funding his project.
