Khanh Son District used to see a high number of school drop-outs in spite of much effort taken to prevent the problem. Things have changed thanks to effective strategies for dropout prevention  for 3 years.

Before 2009, the dropout rate reached 6%/ year or even higher in Khanh Son District. The main reasons included poverty, lack of communication between parents and schools, far distance from home to schools, etc.

Some students say that they are tired of academic challenges at schools. Children of ethnic minority groups suffered from greater challenges because of their limited Vietnamese language.

Since the school year 2009-2010 under the direction of District Party Committee, drastic measures have been taken to prevent school dropouts.

The strategy's goal is to raise awareness about the dropout issue, promote schools to take actions to make a difference and support students.

Communication between parents and schools have improved because better communication between school and parents and increased parental involvement in their children’s education are essential to keeping students in school.

School teams have visited homes to persuade dropouts to return to schools. In addition, supports for struggling students have been provided through the local study promotion association.

Besides, more interesting games and activities have been held at school to motivate students.

Much improvements have been gained. The dropout- rate was reduced to 0.34 in the 2011-2012 school-year and 0.83% in the school-year 2010-2011 from its peak 5.9% in the 2008-2009 school-year.
