Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee has just approved the proposal of the Yersin Admirers’ Association on the celebration of the 150th birthday of Dr. Alexandre Yersin.

Alexandre Yersin (September 22, 1863–March 1, 1943), a Swiss and French physician and bacteriologist, is remembered as the co-discoverer of the bacillus responsible for the bubonic plague or pest, which was later renamed in his honor.
Many diplomatic representatives, scientists and non-governmental organizations will attend the event, which is expected to last for 2 days, February 28 and March 1, 2013.
The celebration is also designed to mark the Year of Vietnam – France Friendship 2013. On this occasion, Vietnam Stamp Company will issue a collection of stamps featuring Alexandre Yersin in Khanh Hoa Province.
