23/3 Thai Nguyen St., Nha Trang City is a familiar address for the disabled. That is a sewing business owned by 57 year-old Nguyen Thi Tuyet Trinh.

People with disabilities study and work at  Nguyen Thi Tuyet Trinh's sewing business.

As one of the first student of Nha Trang Teachers’ Training College, she started her career as a teacher for 10 years and then opened this sewing establishment providing free vocational training and employment for the disabled.

Her business began with 4-5 people in 2004, then up to 15-20 people.

Her 20m2 living room has been used by nearly 100 disabled people to study and work for 8 years.

Trinh taught them basic sewing lessons, so that they can sew clothes, blankets, curtains, etc. Now, they can earn VND1-2 million a month.

Most of her staff are illiterate and in pitiful circumstances. Nguyen Thi Cong Tuan, 29, deaf-and-dumb, lost her right leg in an accident when she was 5. 8 years ago, Tuan came to the business by bike with her crutches.

Trinh's only male learner, Nguyen Thuyen Vuong, 20, hard of hearing, has never been to school. Although his house is in Dien Son (Dien Khanh), far from the workplace, he goes to work every day.

25 year-old Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hoang, hard of hearing, has been here for 7 years. She has worked hard and saved VND10 million for her family.

Trinh's business has provided free training and work for people with disabilities, helping them to overcome the so called disability barrier and lead an independent life.

Trinh says, “My business is open to all disabled people who find it difficult to work or maintain employment in the open labor market. I try to provide benefits such as work flexibility and financial stability for the disabled.”

Trinh's business has opened more opportunities for disabled people to integrate into the community.
