Receiving 10kg of rice, 82 year-old Nguyen Thi Lieu says, “Many needy people have been provided free medical examination and gifts by Nha Trang Red Cross.”

“We used to live in a dilapidated cottage. Thanks to Nha Trang Red Cross, we can have a new house. I am happy and grateful,” Le Thi Dien (Ngoc Hiep Ward, Nha Trang City) says.

In 2012, Nha Trang Red Cross has sought donation from individuals and organizations to build houses for the poor and offer wheelchairs and medicines free of charge to thousands of people.

Dr. Le Quoc Thinh, the Chairman of Nha Trang Red Cross says, the humanitarian institution is designed to protect human life and health with many charity activities such as blood donation, disaster prevention and relief, etc.

Health care is the main duty of the institution. Since early this year, Nha Trang Red Cross has held many charity activities at a total cost of VND5.7 billion. The humanitarian institution in association with Nha Trang Youth Union has held voluntary blood donation with 564 units of blood collected so far.

Medical check-ups and medicines have been given free of charge to over 3,500 local residents in Van Thanh Commune (Van Ninh District), Cam Thinh Tay (Cam Ranh City), the wards of Phuoc Long, Vinh Nguyen, Vinh Truong (Nha Trang City), etc.

Hundreds of old people, disadvantaged families and orphans have been provided free medical care by Nha Trang Red Cross.

In addition, the institution has sent emergency relief as well as held musical shows to raise fund for poor people, orphans and HIV-infected patients. 5,300 gifts worth VND800 million in total have been offered to poor people in Khanh Hoa Province. 5 houses have been built for needy families in Vinh Trung, Ngoc Hiep, Vinh Phuoc and Vinh Luong.

Nha Trang Red Cross is submitting a proposal of the construction of 27 houses for the poor to Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee. Besides, many training courses on first aid and disaster prevention have been held for thousands of people.

Dr. Le Quoc Thinh says in 2013, Nha Trang Red Cross will boost community-based first aid propaganda, targeting at schools; continue seeking contribution from individuals and organizations to its charity activities, increase staff, etc.
