Dinh Thi Diem Hong, a cook at the charity kitchen says, “I was born into a poor family, so I can understand deeply the sufferings poor people have, especially when they are sick.

My monthly salary is not much, only VND1.5 million, but I am satisfied as I can help needy people.”

“I am poor. I have been in hospital for a week with my broken leg. Thanks to the charity kitchen, I have free meals," says 55 year-old Pham Luy, Cam An Bac Commune.

Ho Thi Mang, 66, in Cam Hoa Commune, Cam Lam, says, “My husband has got a flu. We are very worried about the hospital fee.

The free food offered by the charity kitchen has helped us to relieve our burden. I am very grateful to the support. I hope other poor patients can receive such assistance.

According to Nguyen Cong Xanh, Director of Cam Lam District Medical Center, since its opening, the charity kitchen has served over 12,200 poor patients with thousands of free portions worth over VND165 million.

The kitchen has received funding from the state budget and donation from Cam Lam District Medical Center staff.

Poor patients have received food worth VND20,000 each a day for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Nutritious diets are a very important element of patients’ recovery.

As food cost is rising, the kitchen is in need of more funding to continue efforts to help poor patients.
