Many fashion shops have a big end of year clearance sale going on now through the lunar New Year 2013. The purchasing power is low in spite of big sales promotion.

Eend of year clearance sale
Fashion shops such as Vietnam - France, Blue Exchange, John Henry, Modern Fashion on Le Thanh Ton ST., Quang Trung St., 2-4 St., etc in Nha Trang City offer special end-of-year deals with 10 - 70% off. Gifts are also given to attract customers.
Glass and shoe shops on Phan Chu Trinh ST, Hoang Hoa Tham St., Thong Nhat St also offer a 5 - 20% discount on shoes and 30 - 50% discount on sunglasses. A pair of Gucci and Rayban sunglasses priced at VND300,000 – 700,000 can be sold for VND200,000 – 500,000.
Shoppers can benefit from great discount from sidewalk stalls or markets. A shirt costs only VND 25,000 – 35,000 and a pair of jeans VND40,000 – 120,000.
Most of the products displayed at sidewalk stalls are believed to be old-fashioned and selling at a steep discount.
Tightening belts
“Most people go window-shopping. They come, look, but do not buy anything,” says Nguyen Thuy Ha, the owner of Ha Clothing shop says.
Tran Thi Ngoc, the owner of Bao Ngoc Shop on Le Hong Phong Street says the sales are much lower than expected.
The fact that shoppers, especially medium and low income earners, tighten their belts, has led to the consumer spending downturn.
Pham Thi Thao, Vinh Hai, Nha Trang City, says, "50% off signs are put up in many clothing shops. I would like to go through, maybe I could find something new and cheap for Tet."
"I have to tighten my belt for some more necessary things for my family, specially when the lunar New Year is approaching," Nguyen Thi Nga, Vinh Nguyen, Nha Trang says.
