Agricultural premium raised for the marginally poor

Farmers participating in the pilot agricultural insurance will be provided 90% of premium instead of the current 80%.

That is one of the contents stated in Decision 358/QD-TTg on the amendment and supplement to some articles of Decision 315/QD-TTg dated March 1, 2011 on the pilot provision of agricultural insurance during 2011- 2013.

Over 149,000 households have been covered by insurance.

Accordingly, farmers, agricultural production individuals and organizations participating in the pilot insurance benefit from support under Decision 719/QD-TTg dated June 5, 2008 on compensation for avian and cattle epidemic prevention and control; Decision 1442/QD-TTg dated August 23, 2011 on the amendment and supplement to some articles of Decision 719/QD-TTg; Decision 142/2009/QD-TTg dated December 31, 2009 on supportive policies for farmers in the regions affected by natural disasters and epidemics to recover their production and Decision 49/2012/QD-TTg dated November 8, 2012 on the amendment and supplement to Article 3 of 142/2009/QD-TTg.

The People's Committees of provinces and cities are instructed to direct and organize the pilot provision of agricultural insurance; allocate funds for the support provision; inspect and supervise the pilot provision of agricultural insurance in their localities; ensure that support will be granted to eligible beneficiaries within the prescribed scope.

Decision 358/QD-TTg defines the signing time of the insurance contracts must not be later than December 31, 2013.

The initiative aims to provide agricultural insurance on a pilot basis to help agricultural producers to recover from damages and losses caused by natural disasters or epidemics, contributing to assuring social welfare in rural areas and promoting agricultural production.

160,000 households covered by insurance

Rice cultivation insurance has covered 149, 502 households, mostly in the provinces where agriculture is the mainstay such as Binh Thuan, Dong Thap, Nghe An, Thai Binh, Ha Tinh, Nam Dinh, An Giang, etc with 36,997 ha of rice guaranteed.

The total premium has been VND35.9 billion.

Livestock and poultry breeding assurance has been applied in the provinces of Bac Ninh, Dong Nai, Nghe An, Vinh Phuc, Thanh Hoa, Binh Dinh and Hanoi with 7,362 households.

The total premium has reached VND12,259 million.
