At the program opening ceremony held by the Ministry of Agriculture & Rural Development in association with the German International Cooperation (GIZ), Kathry Elliott , First Secretary of the Australian Agency, said the governments of Australia and German would continue to help Vietnam to take suitable measures to adapt to the climate change.
The beneficiaries include the five provinces of An Giang, Bac Lieu, Ca Mau, Kien Giang and Soc Trang.
Juergen Hess from the German International Cooperation (GIZ) says the aim of ICMP/CCCEP is to assist Vietnam to manage coastal ecosystems, enhance resilience and reduce the risk of injury to fauna, protect the Mekong River Delta, raise public awareness of the environment and create sustainable livelihoods for local people.
According to Deputy Minister of Agriculture & Rural Development Ha Cong Tuan, the program promotes the Vietnamese Government’s strategies for comprehensive development and poverty reduction by 2020.
Vietnam is one of a number of countries greatly affected by climate change. The low-lying coastal region Mekong Delta is one of the major concerns of the frequency of heavy rains and great risks of flooding resulting from rises in sea level due to the environmental challenge.
